Our Wealth Management Process

Modera Wealth Management follows a five-step process that first ensures we understand your unique needs and objectives and your risk tolerance level before developing a recommended investment strategy and plan.   We will then implement your strategy by investing your portfolio in our broad array of both traditional and alternative investment solutions, and actively managing and rebalancing your portfolio on an ongoing basis.

1. Needs Assessment
A comprehensive review and understanding of your needs and goals is essential to developing a wealth management plan best suited to your personal situation.  The firm’s professionals will analyze your needs as a first step in providing you with customized wealth management solutions for you and your family.

2. Financial Review
We will thoroughly review your current cash flow, assets and liabilities to help you achieve a variety of goals including: maintaining your standard of living; and setting realistic and attainable growth targets to determine how best to meet your future needs and aspirations.

3. Your Investment Profile
We will work with you to not only ascertain your personal risk tolerance, but to also determine your portfolio’s ability to sustain volatility and fluctuations in the market on a short and mid-term basis.  Based on your profile, we will invest your portfolio using the asset classes and indexing strategies that will achieve your financial goals while mitigating risk according to your comfort level.

4. Your Investment Strategy & Plan
We will develop and implement a tailored, diversified investment strategy based on your needs, objectives and investment profile.

Expert Service
Our expert professionals will ensure your plan achieves your desired goals while mitigating unnecessary risk, diversifying your holdings and controlling expenses and cost.  Our teams of specialists include the following committees providing expertise on a variety of financial issues:

  • The Financial Planning Committee can address unique aspects of your financial plan including philanthropy, intergenerational wealth and tax and estate planning.
  • The Investment Policy Committee will provide you with recommendations and be responsible for all investment decisions made for your portfolio, including the development, management and rebalancing of your account(s).
Industry Leading Products & Solutions
We will help you select from the most appropriate mix of asset classes to include in your customized investment portfolio.  Portfolios may include many traditional asset classes, such as stocks, bonds, and cash, as well as alternative investments offered exclusively through our own Modera Alternative Investments, LP.  Examples of our alternative investment offerings include real estate, energy, market neutral hedge funds, venture capital, private equity, timber and private loans and mortgages.

5. Management, Rebalancing and Review
After implementation of your investment plan, our team will continue to manage your account(s) on an ongoing basis to ensure it adjusts to changing market conditions or changes in your financial situation while continuing to best meet your objectives.  Examples may include if a client needs a one-time cash withdrawal to pay for a wedding or to buy a new home.

We will periodically rebalance your portfolios to keep your actual asset allocation aligned with your personal target allocation and ensure an automated buy low/sell high strategy.

Finally, we will review your plan by providing you with a concise and customized quarterly performance report, which measures and compares your investment portfolio’s actual and historical:

•    Rate of return compared to the targeted rate of return
•    Asset allocation compared to targeted asset allocation
•    Rate of return compared to inflation
•    Rate of return compared to benchmark rates of return
•    Risk level compared to benchmark risk levels
